DIAGNOSIS OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM OF MANTA
Main Article Content
Abstract
A diagnosis of the removal efficiency of pollutants was made in the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of the city of Manta. The plant receives on average a volume of 30798 m3d-1 of wastewater. To that end, physicochemical analyses were carried out in the different stages of the treatment process. The results showed removal efficiencies of BOD5 of 51 % and COD of 56 %. These values, when compared with other WWTPs of the same type, indicate a poor removal of organic matter. Regarding the discharge effluent system, it was found that the COD, BOD5, Kjeldahl Nitrogen and Total Solids parameters exceed the maximum permissible limits of the Ecuadorian regulations. In conclusion, it was shown that the system requires maintenance, especially at the facultative lagoons, since it is the main responsible stage to reduce the global efficiency of pollutants removal.
